June 8 Mexican Mash-Up

    Mexican Mash-Up

Our plans for Dinko De Mayo were foiled by the unpredictable spring weather, but we’re sticking with the fiesta theme for our next Club event on Sat., June 8.

We’ll have some breakfast snacks starting at 8 am, and you must be signed in by 8:30 to participate in the competition. You’ll be assigned to a team, and you'll get the rules for the team competition that will begin at 9:00. All levels are encouraged to participate, and everyone has an equal chance of winning (yes, even beginners).

The games will run from 9 to 11 AM, followed by a Mexican fiesta lunch and a dessert bar. Club officers will be on hand to take questions and suggestions in an informal meeting. Please wear your club T-shirt if you have one. We’ll also be taking orders for T-shirts and tank tops ($20 each).

If you’d like to contribute either breakfast snacks or something for the dessert bar, your culinary creations would be welcome. Please bring “finger foods” that can be served on a napkin without the need for utensils.

Click here if you plan to attend, and please indicate whether you want a vegetarian option for lunch and if you will be bringing any snacks. Please RSVP by Sat., May 25

    Pickleball Boot Camp Anyone?

    By Judi Mosley, 05/11/2024

    Pickleball Boot Camp Anyone?

For those of you looking to get a real leg up on the competition, we have a special opportunity to have a “Pickleball Boot Camp” right here in Grass Valley, IF we have 12 members who want to participate.

Doug Koch is a six-time USA Pickleball nationals medalist and has been coaching pickleball since 2012. He puts on a variety of pickleball classes and clinics for different levels of players throughout the year at various locations around Roseville and El Dorado Hills. Read more about Doug and his clinics here:

Doug has a soft spot in his heart for GVPC, since this is where he got his start. He’s willing to do a special intermediate boot camp for 3.0-3.75 players. It would consist of three 3-hour sessions on July 22, July 29, and August 5 from 1-4 pm. His normal charge for this kind of Boot Camp is $300, but he’s willing to do it for GVPC Members for $200 each.

Doug’s boot camp is a soup-to-nuts approach, covering all aspects of the game. He will help you improve your serves, drives, drops, dinks, and lobs. Best of all, he’ll teach you which of those shots to use when.

Let me know by Sat., May 25, if you want to attend the boot camp. If there is sufficient interest, we will finalize the arrangements and notify you about making payment to secure your spot.

Our Dinko de Mayo plans have been foiled by an iffy weather forecast. Although it’s expected to clear up on Sunday, it will be chilly and may still be a bit drippy during our Sunday brunch. We need to be sure of dry courts, so we’re shooting for Saturday, June 8. The team competition will be during club time from 9 to 11 AM, followed by lunch, sticking with our Mexican fiesta theme. Keep an eye out for an email with more details and a link to sign up.

If it turns out that the courts are dry on Sunday, we will still do our Sunday Funday, with challenge courts on Courts 1-4, ball machine practice on Court 5, and coaching on Court 6. Keep an eye on PlayTime Scheduler.
